Better leadership: Learning from Sisyphos and Lego experiments

In this TED Talk Daniel Ariely, renowned behavioral economist and professor for psychology and behavioral economics at the Duke university, why people work and what makes them feel good about it. It is not only about money. It takes much more, such as motivation, meaning, creation, challenges, ownership, identity, pride, etc.. This is not necessarily new and feels intuitively right to a lot of executives.

What makes this video of Daniel Ariely so special is the compelling and very easily understandalbe way, in which scientific experiments about work motivation are presented, so that the consequences for the leadership practice become so obvious. “The good news is that adding motivation doesn’t seem to be so difficult. The bad news is that eliminating motivation seems to be incredibly easy, and if we don’t think about it carefully, we might overdo it.”, says Ariely.

Years ago, I read Daniel Ariely's book "Predictabyl irrational" and found it to be very inspiring and entertaining. You find more about it under the literature tips.
